Grandparents and Baby Among Victims
A fiery crash on Highway 401 in Whitby on Monday evening has left four people dead, including two grandparents and their infant grandchild. The incident occurred at 8 pm and involved multiple vehicles, shutting down a stretch of the highway in both directions.
Cause and Investigation
According to police, the crash followed a robbery at an LCBO store. A fleeing vehicle involved in the robbery collided with multiple other vehicles, causing the fatal crash. Police are investigating the incident and have not yet released details about the individuals involved.
Emergency Response
Emergency responders from Durham Regional Police Service and Durham Region Paramedic Services attended the scene. Five people from the other vehicles involved were transported to hospital, but their conditions are not yet known.
The crash has caused significant traffic delays in the area, and motorists are advised to find alternate routes. Ontario's police watchdog agency, the Special Investigations Unit, has been notified and is investigating the incident.
