Damage from tornadoes was reported across the Houston area on Friday, with at least seven people killed and numerous homes and businesses damaged or destroyed.
Video footage shared on social media showed a powerful tornado ripping through the southeast side of Houston, tearing down trees, power lines, and structures.
Emergency responders were responding to reports of damage across the region, including collapsed buildings, downed power lines, and blocked roads. School officials in Houston canceled classes for Friday.
The storm system that brought the tornadoes also produced heavy rain and flooding in the Houston area. The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for several counties in the region.
